Citi, a leading global bank, has approximately 200 million customer accounts and does business in more than 160 countries and jurisdictions. Citi provides consumers, corporations, governments, and institutions with a broad range of financial products and services.
Citi aimed to create a platform that could help investors, developers, municipalities, and community members make impactful, place-based investments. The challenge was to design a tool that could provide detailed, data-driven insights into various communities, including socioeconomic needs, climate data, and investment incentive eligibility.
The solution was Citi Builder, a free and refined data-driven platform that provides users with a wealth of information about all census tracts in each of the cities on the platform. This includes people, place, and development information, as well as data on each area’s climate risk, air quality, and richness of natural elements. Users can also filter census tracts by eight socioeconomic needs and view eligibility for three investment incentives.
City Builder has been successful in serving a diverse group of audiences interested in place-based investments. Since its launch in 2019, it has facilitated place-based investment in underserved communities around the U.S. and beyond. The platform continues to evolve, with ongoing updates and improvements to better serve its users and fulfill its mission of facilitating impactful, place-based investments.
